Poppadom Restaurant
Interesting menu, excellent service and reasonable prices. Behind a neat but unremarkable frontage in a row of modern shops lies a treat. Something a bit different from the standard Indian restaurant.Poppadom is a multi award-winning restaurant and its excellent quality of food and service reflects these accolades. With a wide range of dishes on offer, Poppadom is a must for lovers of Indian cuisine. It also has a takeaway operating out of Newlands Cross.Colorful and airy, with linen-clad tables, comfortable chairs and a bar, this new wave Indian restaurant demonstrates the delicious diversity of Indian cooking and offers some appealingly unusual dishes.Complimentary poppadoms with fresh chutney dips are brought before menus which offer regional specialties including a starter of Karwari Prawns - deep-fried jumbo prawns marinated in ginger, garlic, yoghurt, garam masala and barbecued in the tandoor, then served with a fresh mint chutney - and main courses ranging in heat from Chicken Avadh, a mild and creamy dish with nuts that was a specialty of the erstwhile Avadh empire of central India, to Lamb Chettinad, a fiery festive dish of the Chettiyar clan in Tamil Nadu. Vegetarians are spoilt for choice, with plenty of dishes available as main courses or side orders, and a new range of beef dishes is planned.
